Jaisalmer

Another of our favorite cities in India was Jaisalmer, the Golden City. The local sandstone used to make most of the buildings in the city gives the place a nice glow and feel. The fort is impressive and the citadel is a still a living place with people living and working inside.

The rich merchants of the 1800s used to build these grand places called "havelis" that usually had exquisite carving on the outside.

I was enjoying touring this haveli until the owner/tour guide asked me where I was from and then proceeded to tell me that he disliked all Americans and Brits! Harumph!
